• Biodegradation and Bioremediation

Organizer: Rosane Marina Peralta.

Information: Among other things, this work aims to encourage young researchers and undergraduate and graduate students to conduct research in the field of bioremediation.

Link: www.meridapublishers.com/bio/

Information: This e-book provides organized, well-founded, and useful information for undergraduate and graduate students in various fields of knowledge, as well as for anyone interested in this topic of great importance in the environmental field. Among other things, this work aims to encourage young researchers, undergraduate and graduate students in research in the field of bioremediation, serve as teaching material in courses in the environmental, microbiological, and technological fields, and serve as a guide for actions in public policies for environmental control. This e-book is the result of activities carried out by graduate students who took the course BIODEGRADATION AND BIOREMEDIATION, taught by Professor Rosane Marina Peralta, PhD, which is part of the curriculum of the graduate programs in Biochemistry (PBQ) and Environmental Biotechnology (PBA).

Information: The book Mass Spectrometry for Beginners uses simple language to explain this technique, which is used in various areas of the exact, biological, and earth sciences. Since its conception by Thomson, this technique has had several Nobel Prize winners and today represents one of the most assertive forms of investigation of the microscopic molecular world through the study of the properties of chemical species in the most diverse environments or matrices. Using this technique, diagnoses are becoming more efficient, complex biological systems are being explored quickly, and compounds that are both harmful and beneficial to life can be evaluated in a robust and consistent manner. To use the technique or develop something new in the field of instrumentation, this book will help readers get a good idea of what Mass Spectrometry can offer in the scientific field. Of course, reading the fundamental articles cited in the text and doing the exercises will further deepen your experience with this analytical technique. However, even knowing everything in this book, you, the reader, will remain, like me, a mere beginner in the arts of mass spectrometry, as it is very comprehensive and its aspects are very broad. But I am sure it will be an enjoyable read for chemists, physicists, biologists, pharmacists, doctors, engineers, or any professional who wishes to venture into this state-of-the-art field of molecular analysis.

The Secret Society of Bacteria

Organizer: Marcos Pileggi.

Information:
The book addresses misconceptions about bacteria, bacterial response mechanisms, research on contaminant degradation, and the importance of microbiology.

Link: editorarima.com.br/produto/a-sociedade-secreta-das-bacterias/

Information: Professor Dr. Marcos Pileggi published the book “The Secret Society of Bacteria” in 2020. The text is divided into four main themes. The first discusses people's perception of bacteria as dangerous beings and how this perception is amplified by the media and education. This misperception leads humanity to wage war against bacteria, with some consequences presented in the text. These organisms, however, have an efficient response system, which is discussed in more detail as the second theme of the book, exploring it from an evolutionary point of view. The third theme presents the line of research of his laboratory at the State University of Ponta Grossa, which deals with the degradation of environmental contaminants, resuming the discussion of the bacterial response system, which is one of the main focuses, and how people's perception of bacteria needs to be changed so that the results of this research can be used to solve environmental and human health problems. The teaching of microbiology, as the final theme, is discussed as a catalyst to accelerate the necessary changes in the misperception of bacteria and promote transdisciplinary solutions, such as the use of bacterial conversation to promote advances in the control of environmental contaminants and antimicrobial resistance.
